Sunset City release new single 'Numb'
Gold Coast favourites Sunset City release their alt-pop, retro-inspired tune Numb on Friday 24 April through independent record label Neon Music Australia.
Gaining attention around the country for their compelling lyrics and contemporary upbeat stylings, the new single bolsters the band as connoisseurs of edgy pop. The release explores diverse pop sounds by blending Parker’s infectious vocals with nuanced funk riffs, amplified by a darker production quality compared to previous releases. For their fifth single, the band draws inspiration from toxic relationships and addictions to the chaos that follows.
“Numb is actually about a friend who loves to live in complete chaos. I remembered this weird relationship where he wasn’t really into it but also seemed like he was into not being into it, if that makes sense. It was written about 3 years ago but it had to go through 3 versions of production before we felt like it was finally finished,” lead singer Parker explains.
Consisting of Parker Rose, Rob Johnson and Matt Scully, Sunset City first debuted in 2018 with a feature on ARIA nominated duo Bombs’ Away single, Let You Down, before releasing their inaugural single Pockets. The band finished off the year with a collaboration on Papercuts, a single by Ryan Riback – the producer behind Starley’s 4 x platinum record ‘Call On Me’.
More recently, the band worked with ARIA award winner, Samantha Jade for their release of Forget It All, which earned them praise from a number of commercial radio stations around the globe. The song was also a finalist for ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2020 Gold Coast Music Awards. The band continues to bring their energetic live show to events and venues around the country, including Suncorp Stadium, the Commonwealth Games and Surfers Paradise Live.
